How to Create Salesforce Dashboard

The Salesforce Dashboard is a native app in the native Salesforce environment. The dashboard provides a single view of the data relevant to the user and their business. It includes many report and graph types, such as reports, charts, tables, grids, gauges, maps, scorecards, etc.

This article will show you how to build your own Salesforce Dashboard with some simple steps.

What are Dashboards?

Dashboards are a key component of sales operations in Salesforce. It represents the action taken by a sales team. A dashboard summarizes a company’s key performance indicators (KPI). 

Dashboards can also be assigned for each specific group. Dashboards provide stakeholders with useful information. They allow you to monitor how your customers interact with your product. 

This enables you to provide services and deliver a seamless experience for them. Dashboards are a powerful tool to measure and monitor your sales operations. 

However, if you want to create a dashboard, you need to create a dynamic report to show data over time. This task is commonly known as a Dashboard.

What are Dynamic Dashboards?

Dynamic Dashboards are charts that can be visualized and updated based on Salesforce data. There are two types of dynamic dashboards: Short Term Dashboards that update automatically. 

Long Term Dashboards that are updated manually. To create a long-term dashboard, you have to make the reports and add the Long Term Views. Create Long-Term Dashboards: 

A Step-by-Step Guide To create the Long Term Dashboards: 

  • Click on Reports and select Long Term View. 
  • Click on Show and select All Report Locations. 
  • Click on Edit on the Create a Long Term View. 
  • On the Sources tab, click Add. 
  • Click on New Report and select Long Term Dashboard. 
  • Select and add a new report. 

The forecast section is similar to the preview view in the mobile application. You can modify the forecasts and parameters.

Building Dashboards in Salesforce Lightning

As shown above, the Add Columns and Add Reports buttons are not visible.

  • Right-click on the blue button in the middle and select Show detail. 
  • Then click on Add column to add a new column. 
  • Select a table type and right-click on the rightmost column header.
  • Click on Add icon to add a new column. 
  • Select Table Name, title, and description in the box that opens. 

How to View a Salesforce Dashboard 

In this step, you will build a dashboard showing live subscribers to your website. 
There are many data sources you can use to collect this data. For example, Google Analytics and Google Sheets are great tools. 

When you add a new dashboard, click on View > All Dashboards. 
You will then be redirected to the dashboard builder. After creating a new column, you can now edit its details.

Assigning Viewers for Dynamic Salesforce Dashboards

Assign Viewer Key For Users, enter [User_Name]@{ZoneId} In the group, click for Show All. Assign Viewer View By default. 

A Viewer List is populated. You can add an Edit View, which is the ability to create and edit multiple documents. Once the Edit View is selected, a dialog box will appear to modify the Edit View fields. 

Your account must have the Salesforce or Salesforce Sales Cloud Membership and the Salesforce Identities Service in place. Customize the fields according to your preferences. Assigning Viewers A new Viewer list will open where you can customize the View for each View. Click Next to continue. When you are done, click next. 

You can now click on Edit and then Save this report to finish the creation of a report.

Dashboard Setup

As you may know, Salesforce is built with Java, so you can expect the same Java methods for generating tables. 

However, with Salesforce Lightning, you don’t need to connect to the Salesforce Server to start the SQL. Let’s create a simple table now. To start with:

  1. Select the Contact role from the left sidebar in the screen below.
  2. Select the Table settings from the settings menu in the dialog box below.
  3. Select Set Table to Categorical Language from the Table tab and then set the names to contact. You will need to change the CATEGORY_DETAILS field to your Custom ID.

In this case, we want to assign this field to our custom Salesforce users. The value of the CATEGORY_DETAILS field will be the collection ID. You can obtain this number from the user.

Setting up the report

Click on Table Background, make sure the Series Number is set to 1 and click on Open. Now, select Column A – “Description.” You should have two fields – description and sub-summary. 

These will look like this. This is how you would appear in the report. You can change the settings to add other fields – 

  • Click on Add New. 
  • Fill these fields with details. Click on Close. 
  • To increase the detail, click on Expand. 
  • Now, to add new rows, click on Table Background and choose the sub-product. 
  • Click on Create. To return to the Salesforce web console, click on Set up. 
  • Click on the Edit page to see the latest changes. 
  • Now, click on Table Background. 
  • Now, to get the type of sub-product, select View from Table Background drop-down list.

Choosing the field for your data graphic

  • Enter a name for the new field for your data graphic. 
  • Click on Preview. 
  • Now, the suggestions are automatically merged into the data graphic. 
  • Click on Done to finish the wizard. 
  • Save the report with the report name.
